What do we do?
Jo Jingles classes are fun! We offer pre-school children a fun and
educational introduction to music through action songs, movement songs
and playing percussion instruments. Classes run for 45 minutes (baby
classes for 35 minutes) and follow a theme - numbers, colours, general
toddler life experiences - the park, seaside, zoo etc, as well as
weeks where Jo Jingles chooses his favourite songs. Classes are structured
and through the weekly activities children will develop their language,
physical, social and listening skills preparing them for pre-school
nursery and primary school. However the developmental advantages are
by-products - most importantly the children enjoy themselves!! Adults
are encouraged to actively participate - the more enthusiastic you
are, the more likely it is that your child will enjoy the classes.

The Classes
6-12 months - The nature of these classes is simplicity. With
the babies we do simple action songs, nursery rhymes, bouncing, tickling
and cuddling songs. We introduce the simplest percussion instruments
to play.
1-2 years - These class are a subtle progression from the younger
baby class, and the children still require constant help and encouragement.
The children will now learn to play all the percussion instruments,
and will do simple music and movement including walking, marching
and jumping (with help). We sing all the old favourites as well as
some newer action songs. This age group also have a 'Songs with Mum'
time (or with dad of course) where the children can have a bounce
and a cuddle. We do not expect the children to concentrate fully for
the whole 45 minutes of the class - if at some point your younger
child takes a 'wander/crawl' then it might be better to let them (the
only 'out of bounds areas are the tables where props etc are stored).
We want them to enjoy coming to the classes and it is surprising how
much they absorb while they are doing other things.
2-3 years -The children will now be learning to play the instruments
without too much help, and concepts of loud and soft, and fast and
slow are introduced. The music and movement section will be more varied,
with the children acting out more involved actions to songs.
3-5 years - The children will now be fairly independent and
we aim for them to be able to play the instruments well (and even
in time to the music!) Simple music concepts are introduced to the
children eg orchestral instruments, rhythm and clapping the beats,
pitch and notation. We may also look at dance and musical stories
like Peter and the Wolf and Gustav Mole. |
Birthdays
Around your child's birthday (usually just before) we will sing "Happy Birthday" and they will receive a card and a balloon. We would appreciate it if you could remind us the week before. |
Merchandise
There is a range of merchandise available, which is on display at
all classes. This includes small Jo Jingles dolls, CDs, DVDs and t-shirts,
most of which is held in stock. If you would like to order anything,
please ask. We can also order the instruments that we play in the
classes. |
| If you have any concerns, questions or comments/suggestions
to develop the classes please either talk to us before or after the
class or feel free to call me on 0131 443 4196. We would also like
to know if your child has a favourite song, instrument or prop they
would like included. |
