ABOUT US

At Jo Jingles our aim is to have fun with music during the 45 minute sessions. Parents and carers are encouraged to join in and have fun with the children as this helps to develop confidence.

At Jo Jingles the same structure is followed each week as we believe children like the reassurance of routine. Most weeks we introduce different educational themes, ie, colours and numbers using action songs and well known rhymes. We also have a wide range of visuals and props to help explain the theme.

Jo Jingles classes are a great way for children to interact with each other and develop social skills. They also develop their confidence by coming out to 'the music box' to collect their instruments and props and meet 'Jo'.

At each class we play two percussion instruments and also include the use of streamers, beanbags, the parachute and the bubble machine.

Classes are split into age groups to enable children to get the most out of their time with us. In the younger age groups the music and movement helps to promote early language, co-ordination and numeracy skills while for the older age groups they are given a gentle introduction to basic musical concepts, ie, musical notes, pitch and rhythm.

Age Guideline

6 months – Walking

It is never too early to introduce your child to music and Jo Jingles is a great way of introducing your child to well known rhymes and fun new songs. Parents work closely with their children in this class with lots of bouncing and lap songs. It is great seeing the babies learn to clap and dance along to the music. These classes are also a great way of meeting other new mums.

Walking – 2 years

It is important in this age group that children are given plenty of encouragement as 45 minutes can sometimes be a long time for a child to concentrate. Our programmes are designed to be fast moving so that children don’t lose interest. Circle songs are used and are a great way of having fun in the movement sections.

2 – 3 Years

Parents are still encouraged to join in and support their children in this age group, however, children are often becoming more independent so like to do a little more on their own. It is at this age we introduce our weekly themes in more depth and in a fun and exciting way. The children also begin to learn basic musical concepts such as playing loud/soft and fast/slow. The children will now also have learnt when to start and stop with the music. We also use more action and movement songs to get the children moving.

3 – 5 Years

In this age group the programme is similar to the 2-3 group, however we begin to introduce simple multi instrument songs and follow simple theory modules focusing on notation, rhythm, pitch and dynamics. The children are given a folder and a star chart when they start and each week are given a fun homework colouring sheet to complete at home which helps to reinforce what they have learnt each week.
