All about us
JO JINGLES believes in Lots of Attention and Praise, which is why class numbers are kept to a normal maximum of 15/16 children per class.

The structured classes follow a different theme every week, JO goes to the Zoo, JO looks at Transport, JO has a Picnic etc. This is brought to life for the children using relevant songs, the children have "hands on" with two musical instruments from a very wide percussion base, cymbals, drums, tambourines, triangles to name just a few, as well as colourful props and interesting visuals. We have parachute play, streamers, finger puppets and so much more to keep the children involved. The sessions obviously have repetition as this is vital to a child's confidence, they include a warm up, movement, calm time, to take into account the attention span of the age group. We understand that that it is unrealistic to expect 45 minutes of total concentration, and that children just learning to toddle often need a "wander". This is not a problem, and your class teacher will know exactly how to handle it.

AGE SPECIFIC CLASSES

10 mths – 2 yrs
In this class children require constant help and encouragement, with both instruments and movement. Young children can be carried and still benefit from all the circle songs.
Concepts such as “Loud and Soft” “Fast and Slow” are introduced and we have our much loved “Lap song” section where the children enjoy a bounce, tickle or cuddle with their grown up.

2 – 3 yrs
At this stage the children can explore the “theme” content a little more, exercising imagination. More is achieved with less help, which requires even more praise. We introduce counting as we play. “Show and Tell” time allows children to use the skill of language and so confidence grows. We begin the take home colouring in sheet, which links to the theme and when children bring it back in their JO JINGLES folder the next week they are rewarded with a sticker. Lots of help and support is still need with instrument playing.

3 – 5 yrs
Children in this age range will be more independent, playing instruments alone and in time to the music. Simple musical concepts such as clapping the beat are used, and is the music high or low ? We now have a part of the session called Musical Theory, which builds week on week, in half termly modules. This is lots of fun, and the children love building this up each week, and practising at home. This module often contains the elements of Key stage 1 curriculum.
