JO JINGLES CLASSES
Class numbers are usually restricted to 15 children. We use two sets of instruments at each session which include: tambourines, drums, bells, maracas, castanets, woodblocks, claves, triangles and cymbals. We also use various props including parachute, streamers, wings and soft toys to name but a few.
The classes run on a weekly basis during school term times. Have a look at our list of classes and timetable to find one to suit you and your child. If you have two children of different ages you can bring them both to the same class. It is generally better to bring the younger child to the older class and there is a sibling discount.
BABY CLASSES:
A gentle introduction to music for babies from 6 months- walking, using appropriate musical instruments and props. Parents or carers interact closely with babies during a fun filled programme of nursery rhymes, action songs, and songs with props. Young babies will start off with passive enjoyment and within weeks start to become more actively involved with clapping, bouncing and experimenting with their voices. You will discover lots of ideas for continuing your baby's musical fun at home. Why not come along with friends from your post-natal group?
WALKING – 2 YEARS:
This age group needs constant help and support from the parent or carer who brings them with a willingness to join in and have fun. Even with this age we start to introduce basic musical skills. We have a carefully balanced inclusion of movement to accommodate the limited attention span of this age group which consists of circle, action or dancing songs. We sing lots of nursery rhymes and enjoy bouncing and singing songs on laps. We are learning to listen when playing our instruments and stopping when told. With this age group the class is for both of you to share quality time together.
2 – 3 YEARS:
The ability of the children within this age group is improving and they are becoming a little more dextrous playing the instruments, we aim for them to be played without too much help. We will practice playing loud and quiet and fast and slow, and the children are better able to play and stop at the right times. We usually have weekly themes and incorporate songs that are relevant to that theme. Music & movement becomes increasingly varied as the children become more agile. We will also see more exciting props. We are also encouraging more social and language skills as well as the musical skills. A lot of parental support is still required, and parents or carers are always encouraged to join in.
3 – 5 YEARS:
This age group does a similar programme to the 2-3 year olds, but we really start to concentrate on rhythm and playing our instruments well. We are now starting to see more independence and confidence in the children,, and quite often we may use several different percussion instruments introducing the concept of playing in a group. We have a short theory section in this class when we may listen to musical stories. Parents can take part in the class with the children, still offering lots of praise and encouragement.
